KEITH PASCOE – OBITUARY

We have been advised that Keith has recently passed away.

Keith was long time member of the Moss Valley Wildlife Group (MVWG) and he was passionately interested in the Moss Valley and all the wildlife flora and fauna that inhabit it.

Keith was always great company on the many walks and social events he organised, led, and participated in over the years. He will be sadly missed and kindly remembered by all his MVWG colleagues and we extend our sincere condolences to is wife Maureen and their family.

Keith first became a member of the Moss Valley Wildlife Group (MVWG) in the late 1980s/early 90s when development was first planned at Bridlestile, Mosborough. Since that time Keith and his wife Maureen have been active members of the Group with Keith giving several slide shows to the Group illustrating their many trips across the world and Maureen giving the benefit of her botanical knowledge.

In addition to his wide variety of roles with the Group, Keith was an active practical wildlife volunteer bringing a major and valuable contribution to the Group’s practical conservation projects in the Moss Valley including Himalayan balsam control, bracken bashing, red signal crayfish capture, dry stone walling and hedge laying.

When Keith went to work for a short period as a volunteer in the Appalachian mountains in North America he donated his honorarium to the then Sheffield City Council environmental planning department in order to purchase hedgerow “whips” to provide a stock proof hedgerow around the newly created Skylark Meadow on Bridlestile which has proved to be an enormous success.

Keith also spent many hours of his time with the then Three Valleys Project and Sheffield City Council environmental planning department undertaking many practical tasks in the Moss Valley and surrounding area.

Despite being in poor health himself and giving continuous and loving support to Maureen Keith continued to organise and participate in the MVWG annual Bluebell Walk in the Moss Valley leading the last such walk on 23rd April this year. He also contributed to the Group’s wildlife recording walks and had arranged to attend on 30th July this year.

Keith’s proactive “can do” mindset has helped carry the Group through to its 42nd year of existence and is an example to us all. We have all benefited from his drive and commitment but most of all we have been honoured to know Keith as a good friend over the last 30 plus years.

He will be irreplaceable.

The group undertook a recording walk of part of the valley on the date above.  The day was bright sunshine and warm.

Therefore the flora and fauna was being found in abundance. Below are some pictures taken on the walk.

It has been found on our latest walks that there is a lack of sighting of butterflies, it would be of value if during your walks record of your butterfly sightings (with names if possible and  brief description of location) be posted on this website.

It just shows how special nature is, look after it.  Special things can be found anywhere. Keep looking.

These are only a part of our findings, more information hopefully will be available in forthcoming reports.
